RAYNE

My name is Megan and I’m writing to tell you about a very sweet and loving cat named Rayne that I am fostering.  Our journey started when I left work one day.  I crossed the busy street to my car when my co-worker called out my name.  I went over and she told me that while she was walking past the bushes, she heard a cat’s cry.  She called and the cat ran out and started purring and rubbing up on her.  My co-worker already has cats and could not take her home.  She asked if I could take her home.  I thought about it and couldn't say no. There was no way I was leaving this cat on such a busy street.

During our drive home, she wouldn't stop crying unless she was in my lap with my arm around her.  The moment you touch her she starts purring and soaking up your attention.  I looked down and fought back anger and disappointment.  Why is this adorable, four-paw declawed cat out on the street?  She wasn’t street savvy and certainly couldn’t defend herself.  Not to mention it started pouring and continued for the next four days, hence her name "Rayne".  However, I didn't want to dwell on negative thoughts.  Instead, I would attempt to find her owners. The next day I posted flyers in the neighborhood.  I also contacted the local humane society.  During that time, Rayne was set up in my hone with her own room and litter box.  The very next day I noticed her straining in her litter box. I took her to the vet to get her checked out and they determined that she was fine. A couple weeks later she was still straining and obviously miserable.  At our next vet appointment I was told she had a "very, very serious UTI".  They sent me home with medication and I hoped she'd get better. By day eleven of her medication, she took a turn for the worse. She was urinating and bleeding constantly. In an act of desperation I called "For Cat's Sake", whom my boyfriend and I had recently adopted from, with a need for guidance, advice, anything.........I certainly didn't expect the distance they would go to help. For Cat's Sake took her on as their own, making us her foster parents. They immediately made a new appointment for her to see their veterinarian.  Her diagnosis was serious.  She had a horrible UTI, kidney stones, and an abnormality in her bladder wall.  Apparently her bladder never developed correctly as a kitten.  Rayne had to undergo two surgeries; one to remove her kidney stones and one to correct her bladder wall. The surgeries went well and after five days at the vet, she was finally allowed home with more medication, a supplement, and special food. She's doing amazingly well and has become even sweeter.  Now that she’s no longer in pain, she is extremely active and playful. She crawls up on my lap at every chance she gets. She follows me around and playfully tries to keep me from leaving the kitchen by grabbing my leg. She is amazing and I'm so very happy that For Cat's Sake has given her a chance at life.  She is very deserving of it.  Rayne is a prime example of the kind of cat that organizations should help.  A happy, sweet, loving cat who under some very serious misfortunes just needed help, some attention, and some love. But the cats can't go it alone.

While I'm sure most will agree all life is priceless, Rayne's surgery, medication, follow up and special diet cost For Cat's Sake! well over $1500.00.  They are a nonprofit rescue that has only minimal fundraising and adoption fees to continue caring for their cats.

I am now helping to organize fundraisers to help For Cat’s Sake with her vet bills.  If you would like to make a donation, kindly send it to For Cat’s Sake, c/o Rayne, PO Box 270583, West Allis, WI, 53227-2713.
