ADOPTING
A CAT FROM THE FOR CAT'S SAKE! RESCUE
Adopting
a companion animal brings many rewards, but it also brings a new set of
responsibilities. Every day you must provide nutritious food and
fresh water; make time for exercise, training and play. Your new
companion should visit your veterinarion yearly for a physical examination.
You must also be prepared for an emergency and be able to provide
medical treatment when needed.
Prior
to adopting a cat or kitten, here are several key questions you should
ask yourself:
- Do I travel
often? If so, who will care for my cat while I'm gone?
- Can I interact
with my new cat or kitten on a regular basis?
- Can I afford
routine ordinary costs for such necessities as vaccinations and regular
exams?
- Am I prepared
for unexpected expenses if my cat gets sick?
- Are my current
pets up to date on vaccinations?
- If there
are a lot of visitors to my house, how will my new cat adapt?
- Will my
new cat adapt to pets already in the house? How will my current
pets accept a new housemate?
- Do I want
a quiet lap cat or an active, playful type?
- Who will
be responsible for the pet? If I'm a senior, do I have a plan
in place for my cat?
- Am I aware
of my community's pet limits?
ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS
- Must be
at least 21 years of age
- Must have
the knowledge and consent of all adults living in the household
- Must have
approval from the owner of the residence (please provide a copy of your
lease, or the landlords telephone number)
- Must have
a valid ID with your current address
- Understand
that in the best interest of a kitten, we require kittens to be adopted
in pairs unless there is a companion animal of a similar age in the
home. (In some instances there are those that are better suited
as an only kitten, or would do best with an adult cat. If this
is the case, this information will be listed in their profile.)
THE
ADOPTION PROCESS
- Fill
out an Adoption
Application. This information helps us best match the right
cat with your home.
- The
application is in Microsoft Word and can be downloaded to your computer.
The application MUST be filled out completely in order to be reviewed.
Please return your application to fcsrescue@yahoo.com, mail it to the
address above or drop it off at any of our Adoption Clinics.
- All
applications will be reviewed and references verified. This may
take 24 - 48 hours.
- Meet
with the cat/kitten and talk with an Adoption Coordinator.
- Understand
that several applicants may be interested in the same cat and it can
only to into one home. We make our decisions with the best interest
of the cat in mind. Our decision to place the cat into another
home home in no way implies that your home would not be a wonderful
home for one of our cats. We are merely trying to make the best
decision for that particular cat.
- Talk
with an Adoption Coordinator. Please realize that the final decision
to place the cat is based on the Adoption Coordinator and at times,
Board Members.
- We
expect our placements to be lifetime commitments. We cannot condone
a "disposable" pet theory. If you must give up your
cat in the future, you MUST return your adopted cat to the For Cat's
Sake! Rescue.
For
Cat's Sake! requires adopted animals to be spayed or neutered. All cats and kittens will be spayed or neutered before leaving the the rescue.
Immediately following your pets adoption, you will be responsible for
providing regular veterinary care and for ensuring that your cat or kitten
is properly licensed according to the laws in your community. Properly
licensing and microchipping your pet also makes it possible for your pet
to be returned to you if lost.

SENIORS
FOR SENIORS
For
Cat's Sake! believes that mature animals make wonderful pets - especially
for senior citizens. Pets improve the quality of life and subsequently
the elderly live longer with a pet. We believe that a senior pet
for a senior citizen is a winning combination! To promote this,
we offer senior animals to senior citizens at a lower adoption fee.
It is our goal to help cover the costs for our senior animals throug donations,
memberships and fundraising.

COULD
FOSTERING BE FOR YOU?
If
you find that you can't afford our adoption fees, PLEASE ask yourself
how you will afford to provide food, litter and medical care? These
are lifetime expenses. How will you afford the veterinary health
exam that we recommend within the first 30 days? Routine vet visits
and vaccinations? Emergency treatment? These are considerations
that we take very seriously because the future health of our cats is very
important to us.
If
the lifetime expenses of owning a cat seem too great, then you might want
to consider fostering. Click HERE
for more information on becoming a foster home with the For Cat's Sake!
Rescue. Fostering gives you the opportunity to help us save the
lives of more cats and kittens.
